Description:
'Alexandria had long since taken root in him. How many times in his early teenage years had he woken up with wet hair – especially after long, lazy summer days of lethargy – battling a sea so black, so big, and the lights of the city like fireflies at his back. Wave after wave. And then two fluorescent eyes like a cat's, staring at him as he gasped for breath on the deck of a fishing boat. That nightmare, almost forgotten, returned along with the memories of the city.'

When Amir hears that his father Nessim was buried in Alexandria a week earlier, he tries to hide the information, to forget the city and his father. He wants to put down roots in the Netherlands and make a career, and not let his life be influenced by the death of a man who once abandoned his family. In vain. Alexandria creeps into his head via an almost forgotten dream.
Nessim also tried to leave the city behind. In his youth he saw how the nationalistic plans of the Egyptian government did not offer any space for the lively, international community. More and more families left and Nessim also wanted to go to Europe. Maybe the love between him and a Jewish girl would get a chance there.

Between the Morning Sea and the Evening Land shows in a sparkling and poetic way how new, inspiring stories emerge from a melting pot of cultures.
