Description:
A young woman's search for her missing brother
Winter 1944. Anna Verbeek from Amsterdam is fighting hunger with her mother and younger sister. There is almost no food or fuel left in the city. She is also very worried about her younger brother Maarten, who was arrested during the raid in Putten and taken away in a train.
Even after the liberation, no message is received. But then Anna comes across a boy who survived the Neuengamme concentration camp and looks exactly like her brother... What happened to Maarten?
'I am pleased that this publication has once again drawn attention to the story of the Putten raid.' Jannes Priem (last survivor of the Putten raid)
'While reading it was as if Anna takes you by the hand and takes you into her world. Very well written. Of course I have heard the stories of my parents, parents-in-law and grandparents about life during the war, but after reading The Last Winter it is as if you really feel the hardships of this time and understand them better. I simply could not put it down. Highly recommended for young and old.' Karin Poppegaai, bookseller
