Description:
A wrecked fishing boat washes up on a beach in Prince Edward Island, carrying about sixty dead illegal immigrants. It’s winter in that part of Canada, complicating the search for the boat’s missing crew. Police Chief Arletta Browning is understaffed after firing her deputy Gunt Anderson and junior constable Morris after a previous misadventure went wrong. Still, she wants to find the missing crew and bring them to justice.
Anderson and Morris, now private detectives, are also involved in the case when they are tasked by a lawyer to find the mastermind behind the failed human smuggling. However, their client is not acting out of humanity, as the former detectives soon discover. The crew members have found shelter in an abandoned farmhouse, cut off from the outside world by the snow. They want to leave the island, but their contact person cannot (or will not) help them for the time being. Then a hunt for the crew and their client begins, in which the various parties are not exactly looking forward to a life.
