Description:

A beautifully written, sensitive story about the friendship between a man and a child brought together by fate

On a foggy summer night in Martha's Vineyard, ten people board a small private plane: nine wealthy people who live there, and an artist who happens to be on board. Sixteen minutes later, the plane has crashed into the sea. The only survivors are a four-year-old boy and Scott Burroughs, the artist, who manages to rescue the child.

Interspersed with flashbacks to the lives of the passengers and crew of the plane who did not survive, the story of Scott, the boy, and the fragile friendship that develops between this unlikely duo unfolds. Slowly but surely, suspicions arise that something was behind the plane crash – there are too many bizarre coincidences. Why were so many influential people on board this flight? Was the accident a mechanical or human error, or was something else going on?
