Description:
White Ravens is about successful Dutch companies. Organisations in the business world, but also in the semi-public sector. Exceptional companies, which 'self-evidently' manage to achieve a healthy business performance year after year according to the yardstick of the return on their investments - not growth, profit or company value. Success in good times and bad. These companies can be seen as white ravens in a landscape mainly populated by black ravens. Success that simply seems to blow in on them. Nothing could be further from the truth: the white raven distinguishes itself not only by a solid result, but above all by a sound, sustainable business
strategy. And that is apparently not all that different from what all companies are concerned with: the white raven follows a clear course, steers towards implementation, improves its business operations, engages in innovation and shows leadership. Not very surprising, you might say...
But appearances can be deceiving. The white raven focuses on the long-term interests of the company, based on the conviction that this is ultimately the best for all stakeholders. With this as a starting point, he continuously builds on five pillars under the corporate culture: focusing on a meaningful course, consistently realizing this, improving the organization as a whole, innovating purposefully and leading the company in a balanced way. Principles that the white raven specifically fills in, tailored to his own situation. Undisturbed, coherent and strategically anchored. Always and everywhere. And that is an approach that pays off: by consistently continuing to focus, do, improve, innovate and lead, the white raven creates an upward spiral that results in a solid, sustainable corporate performance. In other words, a solid, sustainable return with which the stakeholders maintain confidence in a healthy future. And that is crucial under all circumstances, but especially in turbulent times.
In Witte raven, Gérard Brockhoff presents an idiosyncratic and convincing view of the success of Dutch companies that consistently achieve healthy business performance. Because for the white raven, it is not only the result that counts, but especially the way in which he achieves it. The author draws on his wealth of consulting experience, bases himself on broad research, presents many appealing cases and adds concrete insights from conversations with CEOs, commissioners and investors. Witte raven is therefore an inspiring and practical 'script' for companies that have the ambition to join the 'premier league' of companies. And to stay there.
This book is more than a management book. It is a strategy book about special Dutch companies. Companies that are sustainably successful, in good times and bad. Crisis or no crisis. Organizations that distinguish themselves positively from other companies. In other words, the white ravens in a landscape of black ravens. Organizations from the business community, but also from the semi-public sector, that achieve success that is 'long-lasting' and therefore consistently outperform their competitors. White Ravens unravels the strategic principles that underlie this success in a penetrating and illuminating way. And offers direction and practical tools to get started with it yourself. Because you are not born a white raven...
