Description:
There is no author who seems to reveal himself in his work as much as Harry Mulisch. In 'Siegfried', for example, the main character is described as follows: 'He wore a greenish tweed suit with a waistcoat, which seemed to have the task of holding his long, narrow, fragile, almost transparent body together.' The figure of the writer immediately rises before the reader's eyes, but at the same time the reader knows that with Harry Mulisch nothing is what it seems, and nothing resembles what it is. In the conversations that Marita Mathijsen had with Harry Mulisch, she tried to fathom this paradox. Both break through the strictly literary approach to author and work, which sheds new light on numerous biographical aspects of Harry Mulisch's life.
