Description:
At the very beginning of Mulisch's exceptional writing career are the novella 'Ik, Bubanik' from 1947 and the lecture 'Op weg naar de mythe' from 1954. The novella can be regarded as the beginning of his narrative work, culminating so far in 'De Ontdekking van de hemel' (1992), the lecture as the beginning of his contemplative work, culminating so far in 'Depositie van de wereld' (1980). Almost fifty years later - on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of De Bezige Bij - they appear in print for the first time. They confirm Mulisch's view of writing: 'A writer's oeuvre is, or should be, a totality, one large organism, in which each part is connected to all the others by countless threads, nerves, muscles, cords, channels.'
