Description:
For the poetry collection Wasdom, Hagar Peeters collected her most recent poetry, combined with a selection of poems she wrote before she was twenty. The result is a large book that covers the breadth of life and literature. The title suggests that these poems are about growing up, but of course the end point is never reached. Youth is unrepeatable and adulthood is often an illusion, both of the individual and of the world.
Peeters writes clear poems, which sometimes express anger, then again surprise. In Wasdom all these registers come into their own: melancholy and seriousness alternate with light-hearted irony, and abstract, almost supernatural reflections with reflections of everyday life. But Peeters always writes in a language that sings.
