Description:
Venus and Adonis is based on the story of the same name from Ovid's famous Metamorphoses - soon to be dead for two thousand years but still very much alive. Because look what Shakespeare has done with the classic story. And look what Hafid Bouazza does with Shakespeare's language, and what beautiful art Marlene Dumas adds to it.
Venus falls in love with Adonis. She tries to keep him from his favorite pastime, hunting. Because woe betide him if he dies in that dangerous sport. And she uses all her seductive skills to seduce Adonis.
convincing him of her love for him: she goes about it convincingly and definitely dominantly. But still...
Be worthy, you wonder, to dismount your stallion,
And restrain his proud head upon the saddle-bow;
If you do me this favor, you will receive as a reward
Learn a thousand honey secrets.
Come and sit here, where serpents never hiss,
And once seated, I'll take your breath away with kisses.

To celebrate the collaboration between Bouazza and Dumas we are releasing a luxury edition on beautiful paper and bound. An edition to show off a number of artworks specially made for this edition.
