Eastern Turkey, 1960s. Thirteen-year-old Mehmet grows up in a village that was once founded by the Armenians. His gentle father, who lost almost his entire family in the First World War, is a beloved storyteller, his mother a powerful woman who is feared by everyone because of her sharp tongue. Together with Mehmet's brother and sister, they form a close-knit family. But that changes abruptly when his father has an accident with tragic consequences.

'A smooth writing style that effortlessly draws the reader along and paints a world in warm colours that is completely different from ours.' – Noordhollands Dagblad
'A creditable debut from a new writer who is above all a storyteller.' – Passionate Magazine
'An unusual Dutch-language debut.' – VPRO Gids
'Beautiful, colorful and so moving that tears suddenly flow down your cheeks.' – Flow
