Description:
Dostoyevsky was a religious man who was always short of money. Money and God were the two constants in his life, which was almost as turbulent as his work. And to these two, there was love. Dostoyevsky was attracted to emancipated women with a strong character. Dostoyevsky is often presented as a semi-fictional hero in his own life story, which somewhat clouds the view of what is true and what is made up. A difficult childhood, a tyrannical father who was supposedly murdered by his own farmers, a witch of a first wife, a failed great love, poverty, these are all themes that require at least some nuance. In describing Dostoyevsky's life, Tussen geld en God tries to stick strictly to the facts and banish all fiction. Arthur Langeveld sketches a lifelike portrait of one of the greatest and most original writers in world literature, whose oeuvre remains as relevant as ever.
