Description:
In 1992, Kees Verheul published Villa Bermond, the first part of De Tutcheffs, a family novel. The starting point for this series of novels was Verheul's desire to do something with the work of the nineteenth-century Russian poet and diplomat Tjoetsjev (1803–1873). One of the reasons for this was that he saw a similarity between the poet and his own grandfather. He decided to connect his own life with that of the poet (who is referred to in the novel as Théodore Tuttcheff or Tutchew) in a book that contains the characteristics of a novel, documentary, historical narrative, diary and autobiography.
