Description:
Camelia is a young woman who lives with her mother in a city where it always seems to be winter. After the unexpected death of her father, her life and that of her mother have gone off the rails. Her mother, once a famous flutist, no longer leaves the house and spends all day photographing holes: in walls, in clothes, in floors. Camelia has stopped studying Chinese and earns a living by translating washing machine instructions. She has resigned herself to the fact that this is her life, until she comes into contact with Wen, the owner of the local shop. Wen teaches her to read and understand Chinese characters, which makes her see the world differently. She falls in love with him. She decides to regain her lost life.
In '70% acrylic 30% wool' no emotion is spared. The psychology between Camelia and her silent mother is elaborated in a story that sparkles with language. The novel, which was awarded the Premio Campiello for the best Italian debut in 2011 and nominated for the Premio Strega, the most prestigious Italian literary prize, leaves an overwhelming impression with the acumen with which Viola Di Grado describes the lives of people who cling to each other and do not reach each other.
