Description:
THREE CENTURIES OF BARCELONA, THREE STRONG WOMEN AND THE DELIGHT OF CHOCOLATE
Against the backdrop of Barcelona, the lives of three women are played out: Sarah, Candida and Mariana. Three completely different women from three different centuries. What unites them is what they share: the desire for chocolate.
Sarah, in the twentieth century, has a passionate affair with the inventor of three chocolate bonbons. Candida, in the nineteenth century, seeks more excitement than the refined chocolate her husband makes and runs away with a Neapolitan tenor. Mariana is the center of a conspiracy in the eighteenth century, when the kings of France and England want to get hold of the secret of her cocoa bean grinder. She is given an extremely valuable chocolate pot as a gift, which, after all sorts of complications via Candida, eventually ends up in Sarah's hands - after which history abruptly comes to a standstill in our own time. Care Santos tells this history of chocolate in such an infectious way that it makes the reader's mouth water.
In 2014, Craving for Chocolate was awarded Catalonia's most important literary prize, the Premi Ramon Llull.
