Description:
S. Carmiggelt (1913-1987) developed a unique mastery of short stories as a writer of newspaper columns - initially in Vooruit, the Hague edition of Het Volk, and after the war in Het Parool. His column `Kronkel' was beloved daily fare among the Dutch reading public because of its high degree of recognisability. Carmiggelt's work is now a completely rightful part of Dutch literary history. Hence this integral - and largely chronological - reissue of the complete original oeuvre of S. Carmiggelt, always according to the first edition of each collection. In this series of double editions, part five Forget it & Ping pong and part six Articles de Paris & Catching flies are now appearing, two new collections full of 'Kronkels' and stories in which Carmiggelt observes the absurdity of the ordinary in human interaction and notes it down in an inimitable way. As only the godfather of Dutch columnists can. The collections Forget it & Ping pong were originally published in 1953 and 1954 and are both a selection of thematically very varied 'Kronkels' from this period. * I want to emphasize this clearly: that he was not only a sublime journalist, but also a great writer. - Gerard Reve in Het Parool
