Description:
In his second collection Verdwenen obers Victor Schiferli undertakes something that is reminiscent of Craig Raine's famous History. The Home Movie: the practice of a speculative form of (ancestral) family history in verse. The cycle Radio Silence is about a man who is excommunicated by the family and then disappears almost without a trace. In Schiferli's poem he finally appears. Furthermore, in addition to a series of poetic poems, this collection also contains quite a few love poems, two genres that were already fully addressed in Schiferli's debut Aan een open raam. And in another respect there is consistency: the poetry in Verdwenen obers is also characterized by clarity and a seemingly everyday tone, while beneath the surface it teems with meanings and rustles with mystery.
