Description:
Willem Wilmink is the poet of the great and the small, from moving poems about love or sorrow to disarming observations of everyday life. In the poetry collection Where does that child come from?, which was originally published on the occasion of Wilmink's sixty-fifth birthday, Wilmink gives a portrait of his youth in verse: his birth in Enschede, the war, the bomb shelters, the bombs and the liberation. Then follow blissful years of school trips, teachers, bike rides, friends and especially girlfriends. Wilmink describes his introduction to the work of Theo Thijssen, which he finds so inspiring that he leaves for Amsterdam at a young age. But his youth in Twente continues to occupy him, so that he ends up there again after many wanderings.
