Description:
'A picture often says more than a thousand words' certainly applies to the photo book 'The Second World War'. More than 900 black and white photos, collected by Micro De Get and provided with short captions by David Boyle, give a clear picture of the violent events between 1939 and 1945 during the largest global conflict of all time. In the first half of the book, the authors focus on the battle in Europe, from the rise of racism to the liberation. In the second half of the book, the focus is on Asia and the rise and fall of the Japanese Empire, from Japanese expansionism to the nuclear attack on the Japanese motherland and the surrender. Every important battlefield is discussed and the compilers of the book have used visual material from 'friend and foe'. The many photos are of good quality. The book is provided with a short index and an overview of the institutions that have contributed to the authors' photo collection. A publication for a wide audience.
