Description:
Hazel gets to know the world through her older brother Jaris. They communicate in secret codes, share a fascination for black holes in the universe and communism. But on the way to adulthood, Jaris' thoughts become increasingly dark, until he loses all grip on reality in his schizophrenia. After Jaris' disappearance, Hazel exchanges her parental home in Heerhugowaard for an attic room in Amsterdam. There she develops into a rebellious student. Together with her impossible friends Das and Keizer, she walks the merciless path to the abyss and surrenders to drink, drugs and sex. In a final attempt to find Jaris, Hazel starts a search for her brother. With feeling, irony and great imagination, the idea of reality is undermined. This is not how we treat each other is a wryly comic and poetic image of a hopeless generation.
