Description:
In Drop City, a hippie commune in 1970, the principles of 'freedom and happiness' are taken very broadly and are difficult to handle. When the city finally comes with bulldozers to level the dilapidated complex, the pseudo-guru Norm and some of his followers decide to move their camp to return to the untouched nature. This undertaking takes a heavy toll and the mutual relationships come under great tension. At the same time, it means an adventure and a source of unexpected passions. This razor-sharp novel tells the story of the human spirit, about the failure of ideals in the late sixties and how much our present time has been shaped by that period. Lost Nights is a masterful depiction of a search for a place in the world. TC Boyle is one of the most striking modern American authors. He wrote, among other things, Devil's End, The Women and After Barbarism. His work has won several literary prizes. His most recent novel, San Miguel, was also very well received.
