Description:
Gioconda Belli comes into contact with the Sandinista resistance fighters of Daniel Ortega at the age of 20. She joins the FSLN, the party of the Sandinistas. For five years she works for the resistance in Nicaragua, but in 1975 Belli has to flee abroad. During her exile she stays in Costa Rica and Mexico. In absentia she is sentenced to seven years in prison by the regime of dictator Somoza.
Just before the victory of the Sandinistas in 1979, Belli returns to Nicaragua. Now the fight against the Contras continues. In 1990 the elections are lost and there is little left of all revolutionary principles.
Gioconda Belli marries her great love, the American journalist Charles Casteldi, and moves to Washington. Gioconda Belli now lives with her husband, three children and an adopted child in Santa Monica. What resonates on every page of Chronicle of Love and War is Belli's fighting spirit, courage, and her inexhaustible urge for freedom and independence, also in her private life.
