Description:
In January 2002, Scotsman Rory Stewart became the first tourist to walk in a newly liberated Afghanistan, a country caught between hostile states, warring factions and clashing ideologies. Stewart followed the almost inaccessible mountain route that the Mughal emperor Babur had taken centuries earlier. The extreme, dangerous conditions almost became too much for him. Only with the help of an unexpected companion and the generosity of the people he met along the way did he manage to complete his journey. Way Stations is a masterpiece, an absolute highlight in travel literature.
