Description:
In this collection of stories, PF Thomése describes the undesirable fates of a few forgotten figures from Dutch history. Jacob Roggeveen, the explorer who sailed to the Southland against his will, the second-rate poet Janus Dousa, who finds a whale on the beach while thinking of Latin verses, the dying 'duke' of Ripperda and his personal physician, an iconoclast-with-repentance and his hunchbacked son - they all dream of the truth, but when they get close, they notice that it is unbearable.
