Description:
Saul Sevenbladt knows many attics.

Above his workplace, the 'Attic', the floor where the main board of directors is enthroned, beckons and threatens. There is the attic at home, from where a passage accessible only to Saul's son Arthur leads to the secret Principality of Shadows; there is a 'Little Golgotha', the attic of Villa Waltzicht, where his brother-in-law Hans lives and where his wife, Saul's fragile protégée Rosa, has her hiding place; and deep in his memory, images of an attic and of the girl who was his mother and who disappeared into the night torment him.

The word 'attic', Saul's top boss, CEO Draf, is fond of saying, is derived from the Latin solarium, the place where the sun exerts its nurturing and scorching power most strongly.

In Zolders, Nol van Dijk describes eighteen tumultuous days, in which a seemingly disastrous combination of circumstances drives Saul Sevenbladt into the swamp of his memories. Fragments from his past mingle with Arthur's fantasies, Rosa's suffering and Saul's experiences at home and at the Interregional Management Institute. It makes Zolders a novel in which reality and illusion dance an intriguing pas de deux.
