Description:
The story of the Sixties has been told dangerously quickly in literary history: after the difficult to access poetry of the Fifties came the relativizing jokes of the Sixties. 'The croquettes in the restaurant are on the small side', wrote the Rotterdam magazine Gard Sivik. And the Amsterdam counterpart Barbarber presented a collection of wallpaper samples with a cover around it. But if you look more carefully at the poetry, you will see that the Sixties do much more than just make jokes. Poets such as Armando, Hans Sleutelaar, Cornelis Bastiaan Vaandrager, Hans Verhagen, Cees Buddingh', J. Bernlef and K. Schippers make connections in their work with the visual arts and American poetry, but also with expressions of popular culture: television, advertising, pop music.
In this book, these connections are thoroughly exposed for the first time. The Sixties appear to have acquired an important place in Dutch literature in a casual way. Their influence continues into the latest poetry.
