Description:
Athens, so many years before Christ. A young man, Pythocles, flees the city and is on his way to the garden outside the Dipylon Gate, where the Master resides and teaches in the summer. Pythocles, driven by unrest, is searching for the secret of the Master, in whom we easily recognize the ancient philosopher Epicurus (born around 340 BC). He longs for silence, for rest, for a state of the 'soul like the sea when the wind has calmed down, smooth and shining like a mirror that reflects the light unbroken'. The Master lives together with his pupils, a slave, a hetaera, an illiterate black slave, a citizen who has emigrated from Athens because of the tyrant Demetrius, in the idyllic garden, where he gives lectures and holds conversations with them.
