Description:
The Sankt-Peterburgskie Vedomosti – the Saint Petersburg Times – was one of the most prominent periodicals of pre-revolutionary Russia. Founded in 1702 as Vedomosti, it was published by the Russian Academy of Sciences from 1728 onwards. Until the appearance of the Moskovskie Vedomosti in 1756, the Saint Petersburg Times was the only Russian newspaper. But it was more than just a newspaper; it was the official mouthpiece of the Russian government.
It is clear that because of its long period of publication this periodical is an extremely important source of knowledge about 'old Russia'. In Van onze reporter op plek all reporting on the Netherlands and Dutch-Russian relations as described in the Sint-Petersburgse Tijdingen between 1728 and 1775 has been collected in cooperation with the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Sorted by subject the book contains a complete inventory and is therefore an extremely valuable work for researchers of Dutch-Russian relations.
