Description:
February 2017 marks the centenary of the end of the Romanov dynasty in Russia following a revolution. These were turbulent times. Economic prosperity and adversity alternated. Art and culture flourished, but the country became increasingly unstable due to uprisings and losses in the First World War. Tsar Nicholas II made a number of missteps and was eventually forced to abdicate. He and his family were left in exile for seventeen months, until they were all murdered in Yekaterinburg.

1917. Romanov & Revolution brings order to the events of those turbulent times, seen from the city where it all happened, St. Petersburg (then Petrograd): the fall of the Tsar, the First World War, the Russian Revolution and the evacuations of art from the Winter Palace and the Hermitage buildings. Enlivened with personal objects of the Romanovs (from the Hermitage of course), but also the original Act of Abdication of Nicholas II from the Moscow State Archives. From the Artillery Museum in St. Petersburg comes the armoured car in which Lenin called for revolution immediately after his return to Russia. The many historical photos bring this important chapter in world history even closer in 1917. Romanov & Revolution.
