Description:
Intrigues, murder and love in 16th-century Venice Success seems to come easy to Roberto Zenier, commander of the Venetian fleet. On a beautiful day in 1537 he meets the two women who will play a major role in his life: Bettina, a vivacious and ambitious prostitute, and the modest, noble Portia, to whom he loses his heart. Portia's father involves him in a secret, profitable project that has to do with the recent discovery of America. He ends up in a web of violent intrigue, but is able to escape the city when he receives the order to recapture the Greek port of Paxos from the Turks for Venice. All this time, the reunion with Portia keeps him going, but back in Venice an unpleasant surprise awaits him. A personal order from the Doge leads to a bloodcurdling denouement. Venetian Fire is an impressive historical thriller in which you can almost hear, smell and feel sixteenth-century Venice.
