Description:
In 1614 the University of Groningen was founded and a year later an accompanying library was also established. This book describes the history of that university library, with special attention to the radical changes that have taken place since the sixties of the previous century. More has changed in a few decades since then than in the centuries before, with fascinating consequences for the functioning of contemporary scientific libraries. No one had foreseen such a rapid change!

In addition, separate attention is paid to the wealth of manuscripts and special printed matter, which the library acquired in addition to the regular handbooks and study books over the centuries, often as a gift or legacy from collectors in all kinds of fields. Both the general historical section and the section on Special Collections are richly illustrated, with almost 200 images, graphs, diagrams and tables.
